Advanced Diploma

Advanced CIPS Diploma Level 5 in Procurement and Supply

CIPS Level 5 or Advanced Diploma Level qualification

The Advanced Diploma level is the stage where students break through into more depth in their CIPS journey, having grasped the fundamental from the Diploma stage.

Even though this level is directed towards senior buyers, supervisors and managers you do not have to currently be in these roles to start the CIPS Advanced Diploma level, or CIPS Level 5.

Most CIPS students undertaking this level who are not in these roles aspire to reach these positions at some point in their career.

Not everyone who completes their CIPS Level 4 carries on to CIPS Level 5, this presents an opportunity for those prepared to continue their studies to place themselves at a further advantage in their procurement and supply chain careers.

For entry into CIPS Level 5 the student needs to complete the CIPS Level 4 certificate, although starting the Advanced Diploma stage is possible pending Diploma stage results.

As Level 5 is focuses on higher level positions the Advanced Diploma introduces the student to management providing essential tools and models how to manage oneself, teams and stakeholders.

Increasing in importance in procurement and supply chain management is risk which the Advanced Diploma covers much more in depth, managing supply chain and contractual risk within organisations and the supply chain.

Procurement and Supply Chain supervisors and managers have more decision-making remits in their roles and Level 5 gives an overview of policy, procedure and codes of conduct creation and management.

One of our students; Greig Matthew, is a Strategic Procurement Manager at First Group Plc and has completed the Advanced Diploma level. As Greig’s role is directly linked into operations he made good use of the L4M9 module, Operations Management, and also L5M1 - Managing Teams and Individuals. Greig also selected the Advanced Negotiation option, L515, to further develop his negotiation technique and provide an increased level of savings into his organisation.

Level 5 is slightly different to Level 4 as for the first-time options are introduced. Like Greig, the student can select options that are more aligned to the students’ role. Lean Procurement offers as much flexibility in their rolling programme to achieve this.
